9th Wonder On Reuniting With Phonte [VIDEO]

My boss, Andreas Hale, and Shake of 2DopeBoyz were on an interview rampage during SXSW, and they managed to catch up with 9th Wonder along the way. As a North Carolinian and a huge Little Brother fan, I'm glad that at least 2/3 members have reunited and are preparing to make some major moves. Watch below as 9th explains their upcoming ventures.

Gangstas Use Emoticons Radio, Vol. 13: R&B Leaders of the New School

I can't believe there are 13 of these now!
Hip Hop has changed dramatically over the years--almost everything is digital now and rappers can make music to anything because creativity seems endless. I welcome these changes with open arms and although there are a lot of sh*tty artists clogging the Internet, there are also incredible talents that can reach a large audience easier than ever before.

What few seem to notice is that the same movement is happening with R&B.  There are tons of amazing singers and songwriters that are participating in the progressive evolution of this genre that seems to be expanding just as quickly as rap.  I'd like to consider the standouts in R&B our "Leaders of the New School," although many who are just starting to gain major attention have been around in the industry for quite some time.

Check out a Gangstas Use Emoticons Radio, Vol. 13, a showcase of these R&B Leaders of the New School, which includes music from Miguel, Jhené Aiko, Teedra Moses, Frank Ocean, BJ The Chicago Kid, The Weeknd, and more!

For a "crash course" in everything Phonte, check DJ Flash Presents The Best of Phonte, a 70 track mix of some of Phonte's dopest verses.

New Music Video: Eric Roberson - Picture Perfect f/ Phonte

I'm familiar with Eric Roberson only because he's featured on Phonte's upcoming solo album Charity Starts At Home.  To my delight, the soulful singer from New Jersey has some material of his own that he's releasing on October 11, entitled Mr. Nice Guy. Check out the smooth black and white music video for "Picture Perfect" below and hit the jump to download the track!

September 27th Will Be A Momentous Day for Hip Hop

On September 29, 1998, both Outkast and Jay-Z dropped Aquemini and Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life, respectively.  Both albums did extremely well commercially and contain tracks that are recognized as some of hip hop's classics.
September 27, 2011 is shaping out to be a similar occasion, and will undoubtedly be a HUGE day for Hip Hop.  Some of today's brightest emcees who represent the future of the rap game are dropping albums and EPs left and right.  The competition will be on, so hit the jump to learn more about the releases from J. Phonte, KIng Mez & Charlie Smarts: In The 336

NC Stand Up!!

New music from fellow North Carolinians Phonte, King Mez & Charlie Smarts under the moniker, The Dropouts.  While I rep another NC area code (704), I'm still proud of "In The 336," which will be a part of LiKuid Nation's upcoming L.S.D. project.

New Music: Phonte x Elzhi: Not Here Anymore

Yesterday, I read Phonte tweet that he was dropping a new song at midnight. What did I do? Fall asleep...

I have loved Phonte's music since I first popped in Little Brother's "The Minstrel Show" in my bedroom.  After that, it was over; I educated myself on all of their albums and eventually became a Foreign Exchange stan.  "Charity Starts At Home," however, will be the first solo effort from Phontigallo and it will be dropping on 9.27.  Sounds like a great day for North Carolina music.

Listen/ Download "Not Here Anymore" here or below.
