Next Up: Skewby

I'm not the type of girl who likes to admit that I let a dope emcee slip my radar, but I had to swallow my pride when I saw Skewby's video to "Eleven 58" on MTV RapFix Live. As part of the show's "Get In The Game" segment, The-Dream gave him nothing but props for his confidence and lyrical ability and didn't really have any suggestions but for him to keep at it.

The Memphis rapper has already gained the support of city, but he's been causing some major waves recently with his latest mixtape More Or Less.  Watch Skewby's self-directed visuals to his newest single "Ups & Downs" below, and hit the jump to view his MTV appearance and to stream/download More Or Less!

Next Up: Honors English

If it weren't for MTV Rap Fix, who knows how long it would've been before I caught wind of Honors English? His video for "Cymbals On The Sidewalk" had veteran rapper Skillz at a lack of words when asked to give the Florida based emcee some constructive criticism.

Honors English isn't just a reflection of the care he puts into his craft; he's actually a college history professor! With the unconstrained ability to paint a three-dimensional picture with his wordplay and backing from Grammy winning producer Needlz, it's certain that the sky's the limit for Honors English.

Check out the Josh Milowe directed visuals to "Cymbals On The Sidewalk," the lead single from Honors English's upcoming album State Of The Art, below, and hit the jump to get more familiar!

Next Up: Tiara Thomas

Tiara Thomas is an incredibly talented singer/rapper/songwriter who is widely known for her collaborations with Wale and other members under The Board Administration roster.  Although she's still working hard as a college student, she still manages to balance her career that seems to be growing exponentially.  Watch the video for "Gang Signs" below and get ready for her EP which will be dropping soon.

Hit the jump to stream/download her track "All Around The World" f/ Wale.

Next Up: Childish Gambino (Donald Glover)

I was first introduced to Childish Gambino when one of my Twitter followers said that my blog's name reminded her of him.  What I didn't know, until then, was that Childish Gambino and actor Donald Glover, star of the hit NBC show, Community, were the same person.

Before you automatically associate him with Nick Cannon, Drake and other actors turned rappers, let his music influence you first.  His lyricism is top notch, and the man's got BARS.  Watch below as he performs a brand new track that will be on his upcoming album Camp.

Late Pass: Download The Childish Gambino EP, his latest studio album which he dropped for free back in March.

Previously: New Music: J. Cole - Who Dat (Pt. 2) f/ Childish Gambino & SD

Props to my homie Chizom of RNR who put me on!

Next Up: Sabi

Before today, I had never heard of Sabi.  Thanks to scouring the VMA webpage, I stumbled upon this pre-show performer.

Sabi is a singer from Inglewood, California whose love for music and dance has led her to her blossoming career.  Most recently, she was featured on the track "(Drop Dead) Beautiful" from this year's Britney Spears' Femme  Fatale album and on the Cobra Starship track "You Make Me Feel."

I usually have to be in a very interesting mood to listen to music with a pop/electronic vibe, but Sabi's voice    is so strong and powerful, that I've been listening to her music on repeat. Check out her song "Wild Heart" below.

Hit the jump to watch Sabi's interview with MTV News and make sure you check her out today at the MTV Video Music Award's preshow at 8/7 Central!

Next Up: Complex's 15 New Rappers to Watch Out For

I'm pretty much addicted to Complex's lists.  I learn about new artists, I get more info about my favorite artists, and I don't feel like throwing my MacBook out the window like I do when I read XXL's list of Freshmen.

Today, they released their list of 15 New Rappers to Watch Out For.  Overall, I think the list is great. There are some names I'm not too familiar with like Action Bronson, ASAP Rocky, V-Nasty and Hopsin (doing research now), but there are some rappers that I'm really feeling like Casey Veggies, Ab Soul, Bad Boy's newest artist Machine Gun Kelly (praying for you), and MMG's Stalley.

Next Up: CyHi The Prynce

"...The new Commandment: "Thou shalt not hate, kid"/ My movement is like the civil rights, I'm Ralph David/Abernathy, so call my lady Rosa Parks/ I am nothing like them niggas, baby, those are marks// I met this girl on Valentine's Day, fucked her in May/ She found out about April, so she chose to march// Huh, damn another broken heart/ I keep bitches by the twos, nigga, Noah's ark...G-A-T in the Pathfinder/ Cause you haters got PhDs/ Y'all just some major haters and some math minors// Tiger Woods, don't make me grab iron"
(CyHi on Kanye West's "So Appalled")

When I heard this verse, I was pulling up my car at home.  It was so dope, I parked and sat in the car while I played the verse back.  I knew who CyHi The Prynce was from his BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher from last year and was pretty impressed, but I had no idea he would murder a song like that.

From then on, I kept an eye out for him looking for any songs or videos he made.  I spent many tweets trying to let all my followers know how much of a problem he is and will be for the game.  It even sparked a few debates.

Next Up: BJ The Chicago Kid

Sorry for the delay in posts. Had to do it big for my Birthday! Great weekend!

If you love Music Soulchild, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, or Mario, chances are you will love BJ the Chicago Kid. Not because he sounds like them, but because he has been the pen behind the hits and the voice behind the hooks of some of my favorite songs.  While his songwriting abilities are amazing, his vocal talent is arguably the most impressive.  Check out his single "Fly Girl Get 'Em" and see what I mean.

Next Up: Kendrick Lamar

I'm hoping you've already heard of Kendrick Lamar and his music.  If not, prepare to be amazed. Hailing from Compton, CA, he's mastered his craft by incorporating his first and second hand experiences of the streets. I've been bumping all three of his albums since J. Cole mentioned him on UStream in the fall and after one listen, I wished I'd heard of him before.

Signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, Lamar is also 1/4 of Black Hippy along with Jay Rock, Ab Soul, and Schoolboy Q who are all going to do some serious damage to the game.

Buy Kendrick's #Section.80 on iTunes today. Jay Rock's Follow Me Home will be available on July 26th.

The video above shows Kendrick rapping his #Section.80 song "Hol' Up" to Jay-Z "What We Talkin' Bout." Shouts to Hip Hop Music Now for the video.  Hit the jump for some more music and downloads.

Next Up: Mr. Finley

As a self-proclaimed DJ (Big Boi, I don't wanna hear it) I feel it's my duty to help promote the artists and songs I keep on rotation. Mr. Finley is a Vegas native signed to Def Jam and part of Yelawolf's Ghet-o-Vision label.  His latest single "Oh Yeah" f/ Yelawolf has been getting all kinds of iTunes play counts and off-beat scratches on my Virtual DJ, and if it gets to the clubs it'll make all my emoticon typing gangstas want to smack the snapbacks off somebody. You definitely won't be disappointed.
